Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Bethany Presbyterian Church enjoyed a very spirit-filled Advent and Christmas season. On December
15, Bethany held its first of two vesper services called “A Very Jazzy Christmas.” The following
week, December 22, the second vesper service was held featuring Columbus Urban Strings Orchestra
and included a community sing-a-long.
The church family also participated in the Angel Tree program which provides toys and other items
for children in need.

On behalf of our pastor, the Rev. Edward Lewis, Bethany wishes all a healthy and happy new year.

Bethany Welcomes Rev. Jimmie Hawkins

On Sunday, September 15, Bethany welcomed Rev. Jimmie Hawkins, Director of the Office of Public Witness in Washington D.C. Rev. Hawkins was in Columbus for a four-day visit to the Presbytery of Scioto Valley. Bethany was part of the tour.

As guest preacher, Rev. Hawkins lifted up two passages in the Book of Matthew — 4: 23 and 9: 25. These passages remind worshipers that God is still on the throne. As Christians we are still required to preach the good news and proclaim the goodness of God.

Bethany Celebrates 101 Years of Christian Love and Service

Bethany officially celebrated its 101st anniversary on Sunday, July 21, 2019. The Reverend Dr. Charlene Watkins was the guest speaker delivering an inspiring sermon following the anniversary theme of “New Horizons 101: Beginning a Second Century of Christian Love and Service.”

Rev. Watkins’ sermon was based on Luke 10: 38-42 and reminded worshipers to always seek the presence of the Lord, discern the Lord’s purpose for your life, and patiently receive the Lord’s power to glorify his name.

Dr. Watkins has served in full-time ministry for 42 years and is presently the Minister of Christian Education at Mt Olivet Baptist Church. A reception was held in Rogers hall following morning worship.
