On Sunday, October 15, 2017 Bethany celebrated Men’s Day. Hearcel F. Craig, State Representative of the House 26th District, was guest speaker. Representative Craig lifted up the Old Testament story of Joseph encouraging members to follow their dreams and to always trust in God.
Keith Williams, moderator of Presbyterian Men, thanked the men for their service and the entire congregation for their support of the men’s group.

On July 16, 2017 Bethany celebrated 99 years of worship and service. The Anniversary Committee, led by Elder Ann B. Walker, marked the occasion with a weekend of events: on Friday, July 14, Bethany held a chicken, waffles,and jazz dinner. On Saturday, Bethany hosted the Imani Milele Choir from Uganda. The annual Anniversary Worship Service was held on Sunday, July 16. The Reverend Dr. Amelia Walker brought the morning message, “Are You Ready for a Miracle?”
Following the worship service, a luncheon was held in Rogers Hall.
The Imani Milele Children’s Choir from Uganda will appear in concert at Bethany Presbyterian Church on July 15, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm as part of Bethany’s 99th Anniversary celebration.
This choral group is made up of orphans from the country of Uganda. They will travel throughout the Midwest and eastern parts of the United States to raise money to educate and train other orphans in Uganda.
Choir members will have artifacts for sale and guests may sponsor a child for $35 a month.
No tickets are necessary to attend, but there will be a freewill offering. Click here to download the flyer.]]>
Bethany Presbyterian Women celebrated 61 years of faithfulness, witness and mission on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the annual Women’s Day. Minister Joan Cousins was the speaker focusing on the theme of Women of Vision.
Pearline Byrd and the Bethany Women’s Chorus, under the direction of Shirley Freeman, provided the special music. Another highlight of the day was the awarding of the PW Scholarship to Kyle and Kalia Lawson. Toni Mitchell was presented the PW Lifetime Membership pin for her faithful participation.
Following worship service, worshipers were served lunch in Rogers Hall.

On January 22, 2017, Bethany ordained and installed church officers for the class of 2019. The Reverend Michael O. Wilson officiated the service following a sermon in which the newly elected were encouraged to rely on God for strength and guidance. Rev. Wilson also encouraged worshipers to support those whom they had elected.
Keith Early was ordained and installed as elder; Linnie Haynesworth was installed as elder. Cornelius Duff and Annette Greene were installed as deacons,and Jeffrey Coulter, Charles Dunbar, and Lenora Parham were commissioned as trustees.
Following worship, the trustees hosted a luncheon in Rogers Hall.
Christmas festivities began on November 27 with the start of Advent and a Hanging of the Greens service during 10:45 worship.
Worshipers celebrated three services of Holy Communion on December 4, December 25, and January 1.
Bethany Presbyterian Women treated the congregation to a Christmas Luncheon on December 18 and the Trustees offered a thank you dinner on December 25 following morning worship.
The deacons decked the halls with beautiful poinsettias in the sanctuary. The Light shines brightly at Bethany. Hallelujah!

Bethany Men’s Association celebrated Men’s Day on Sunday, October 16, 2016 with Napoleon Bell Jr. as guest speaker. Mr. Bell used Luke 8: 26-39 as his main text and encouraged worshipers to use common sense and trust God.

With Mother’s Day on May 8, and Women’s Day on May 15, Bethany provides double opportunities to celebrate women and their gifts.
The Mother’s Day message highlighted love and Women’s Day, faith. In fact, the theme of the 2016 Women’s Day observance was “Women of Faith: Let’s Celebrate.” The guest speaker was the Reverend Deborah Johnson with Darchelle Williams providing special music.
Estelle Brooks, Randi Mitchell, and Ann Walker were recognized for their service in the women’s organization.
Following morning worship, Bethany Presbyterian Women hosted a luncheon in Rogers Hall.
On March 27, 2016, Bethany celebrated Resurrection Sunday following a very inspiring Lenten season.
On Palm Sunday, the Bethany congregation participated in an intergenerational Easter Program.
At the end of the service, the congregation witnessed a stripping-of-the-church ceremony.
The Eastside Fellowship Ministry congregations joined Bethany members on Wednesday, March 16, 2016
for a Lenten meal and worship service.
The congregation will continue to celebrate Easter throughout the season.]]>
On Sunday, February 14, 2016, Bethany installed elders and deacons and commissioned trustees for service in the church. Rev. Michael Wilson preached a sermon exhorting the congregation to give their time, energy and imagination to the glory of God.
Ordained and installed as elders were Cheryl Brooks and James A. Cleamons. Geneva Cleamons and Annette Greene were ordained as deacons while Judy Starks and Mollie Jones were installed as deacons in the class of 2018.
Linnie Haynesworth, James Green,and Keith Walker were commissioned as trustees.
Following the worship service, the congregation greeted the newly-installed officers at a reception.
The Christmas Season began on November 29, 2015 with the first Sunday of Advent with Bethany youth
leading the service. On December 6th, members were treated to an evening of Jazz Christmas music organized by Bethany music director, Shirley Freeman.
December 13th was collection day for the Angel Tree Program, a mission program that provides gifts
to children who have an incarcerated parent. On December 20th, members enjoyed an intergenerational
Christmas program retelling the Christmas story through Scripture. Following that service, Presbyterian Women hosted the Christmas luncheon and a program.
A candlelight service was held on Christmas Eve and the congregation continued to enjoy the Christmas spirit and Christmas music on December 27th and January 3rd.

On Sunday, October 18, 2015, The Presbyterian Men of Bethany invited Bishop Gaius Griffea, Pastor of New Haven Church of Columbus, to bring a special message in honor of Men’s Day. Moderator Keith Williams welcomed and thanked all worshipers for their joyful and spirit-filled presence. Many members of the New Haven congregation joined the Bethany Family for this annual worship service.
Special music included selections from the Bethany Men’s Chorus and solos from Ron d. Harrington of
RDH Music and Pastor Harold Palmer.
Keith Walker was named “Man of the Year” for his service to the Bethany Community.
A repast was served following worship service in Rogers Hall.
On August 30, 2015, Bethany celebrated its summer Youth Sunday with an outdoor service. Gathering in the courtyard and Rogers Hall, worshipers enjoyed great weather and a stirring meditation by Rev. Michael O. Wilson who encouraged youth to arm themselves with love.
The Asbury Praise Dancers and Children’s Choir also contributed to the service. Following a family meal, the service ended with Rev. Wilson giving a special blessing to each child in attendance.]]>
On Sunday, July 19th, Bethany celebrated her 97th anniversary. Guest speaker was home-grown Robina Winbush, Associate Stated Clerk and Director of the Department of Ecumenical and Agency Relations at the Presbyterian Church USA. Rev. Winbush’s sermon, “Roots Producing Fruit” was based on John 15: 1-17.

On Sunday, May 31, 2015 Bethany announced the 2015 Luckey Scholars. Twelve young women emerged from a competitive selection process, and will attend some of the finest colleges in the nation this fall. Scholarships ranged from $500 to $5000 thanks to benefactor Louise Ann Luckey.
Luckey Scholars and their families attended worship service at Bethany where Rev. Michael O. Wilson reminded recipients of their many blessings. Urban Strings Youth Orchestra added to the festivities providing special music for the occasion.
Following morning worship, scholarship recipients celebrated at the Boat House at Confluence Park.
Indeed, Luckey Scholars don’t need lucky; they are truly blessed!
Bethany Presbyterian Women, under the leadership of Ann B. Walker, celebrated its annual Women’s Day on Sunday, May 17, 2015. Missionary Peggy Burke delivered an inspiring message encouraging worshipers to embrace the three S’s of Christian life– sacrifice, submission, and service.
Mrs. Elizabeth D. Nolan was acknowledged for her faithful service, and awarded honorary lifetime membership in Presbyterian Women.
Following morning worship, a light repast was held in Rogers Hall.
Called in February, the Bethany congregation officially welcomed Rev. Michael O. Wilson to the Bethany ministry and to the Columbus community on April 19, 2015.
Following morning worship, the Session and Membership Ministry hosted a repast to celebrate the occasion.
We look forward to working together to serve the Lord in this place.
On April 5, 2015, Bethany celebrated Resurrection Sunday. The day began with Sunrise Sunday led by the Men’s Association. Following the early service, the men hosted an Easter breakfast. At 9:45, the children offered an Easter program with music and dance. The 10:45 service included a service of Holy Communion.
Christ is Risen. He is Risen Indeed!
On Wednesday February 25th, Bethany hosted the Eastside Fellowship Ministry’s annual series of services. The evening began at 6:00 with a Lenten meal of soup, sandwiches, and dessert in Rogers Hall. At 7:00, worshipers filled the sanctuary for the Lenten service. More than 80 people were in attendance to hear the Lenten message from the Rev. Carl Rayburn.]]>
On January 18, 2015 Bethany confirmed God’s call installing and ordaining officers for the Class of 2017. Rev. Michael Wilson, Bethany Transitional Pastor, installed Keith Williams and Randi Mitchell as elders. Rachel Moore was ordained as deacon, and Mitchell Franklin and Albert Kirk were commissioned as trustees.
Presbyterian Women also installed new officers: Ann Walker, president; Cheryl Johnson, vice president; and Sharon Harrison, secretary-treasurer.
Advent and Christmas are busy seasons here at Bethany. We kicked off the Advent Season in November with a Youth Service which included a service of Holy Communion and family lunch. Advent also welcomed two Vesper Services. On December 21st Bethany enjoyed the Children’s Christmas Presentation, and adding to the festivities Presbyterian Women hosted the annual Christmas Luncheon. The Candlelight Service was held on Christmas Eve and on Dec. 28th, the congregation was treated to a special presentation, “The Magi and the Message” by the Making Connections Ministry. We ended our Christmas celebration on January 4, 2015, Epiphany Sunday, with a service of Holy Communion and special prayers for the New Year.
May all continue to receive God’s blessing throughout the year.

On Sunday, July 20, 2014, Bethany Presbyterian Church celebrated her 96th anniversary. Bethany is a wonderful example of God’s goodness, mercy, and grace at work. The Reverend Rudolph Featherstone, guest preacher, reminded the congregation of God’s mercy and grace with a sermon entitled “Sitting at the Welcome Table.” The message lifted up the hope, trust, and faith we all need on our faith journey. A particularly poignant moment in the service was a solo–“Your Grace and Mercy” by Albert Kirk. A luncheon followed morning worship.
Many thanks to the Anniversary Committee, chaired by Ann Walker, for all its hard work.
For more than a year, the Rev. Dr. Lonnie Oliver has served at Bethany as the associate for African American congregational support in the General Assembly Mission Council. He has made monthly trips from Louisville, Ky to Columbus to assist Bethany in identifying congregational needs, missional goals, and for spiritual development. Rev. Oliver’s presence has inspired greater and more meaningful conversations among church members creating a more vibrant and healthy church. On Saturday and Sunday, June 21st and 22nd, Rev. Oliver led his last workshop and preached his last sermon at Bethany. The Bethany Family thanks Rev. Oliver for his time, energy, and love.

The Bethany congregation was doubly blessed on June 8th as it celebrated Pentecost and Graduation Sunday. In honor of the day, many worshipers wore red, the liturgical color of Pentecost.
Members also celebrated the graduation and academic achievement of its youth.
A reception in honor of the graduates was held following morning worship.

On Sunday, May 18, 2014 Bethany Presbyterian Women celebrated their 58th Women’s Day. The Reverend Marjorie McDaniel Burnett led the worship service and a reception followed. The Bethany PW is moderated by Sheryl Williams.

On Sunday, March 30th, Bethany celebrated its first Youth Sunday of 2014. The Lenten Season provided a wonderful opportunity for cast members to learn more about Lent and to hone their acting skills. A reception for the entire congregation followed worship service.
